Snap rivets or Nuts n Bolts?

Postby Matt Denton » Tue Jun 10, 2008 5:13 pm

Another poll relating to the MSR-H01 kit. To retain the servos, I can either use 4mm snap rivets or M4 button head hex machine screws with a nut.

Snap Rivets:
Pros: Easier to fit, Lighter, can be replaced with M4 machine screw and nut.
Cons: Can wear out if re-used too many times.

M4 Machine screws:
Pros: Longer lasting, better looking (in my opinion!), can be replaced with snap rivet.
Cons: Heavier, Can shake loose (unless retaining compound used).

There is the option to have these machine screws in natural/black colour, however, I can not find matching black nuts, so the nut would have to be Zinc plated.

Indeed! Button head hex sockets would be my choice, but adds price to the kit. I figured maybe an upgrade?

Scrap that, I think its cheaper if I use nut & bolt! not only that, but using Button head hex screws!! which would always be my first choice. I will take a new photo and start this poll again!

Zinc plated or as they come out the box is a good idea because

1. Its cheaper
2. When I lose one (and I will) then I can buy similar from Farnell or RS Components.

Sorry, I'm misleading you, they come either zinc plated or natural black.
